Rules of competition
PARTICIPANTS
The 1st Rovdo International Choral Competition invites amateur choirs and ensembles: adults, youth, children’s, mixed choirs, choirs of equal voices (male and female).
CATEGORIES, AGE LIMITS, AND NUMBER OF MEMBERS
- Category А1: Children’s Choirs [younger]
Age limit – up to 11 years inclusive
Number of members – from 20 up to 40 singers
- Category А2: Children’s Choirs [older]
Age limit – up to 16 years inclusive
Number of members – from 20 up to 40 singers
- Category В: Youth Choirs
Age limit – up to 25 years inclusive
Number of members – from 13 up to 50 singers
- Category C: Mixed Choirs [adults]
Number of members – from 13 up to 50 singers
- Category D: Choirs of Equal Voices (male and female)
Number of members – from 13 up to 40 singers
- Category E: Sacred music
Number of members – from 8 singers minimum
- Category F: Spirituals and Gospel Songs
Number of members – from 8 singers minimum
- Category G: Folk Music
Number of members – from 8 singers minimum
Choral groups can participate in several categories under the following
conditions:
- performing a unique program for each category (do not repeat any pieces)
- paying a registration fee for each successive category
Evaluation and awarding
The competition program is evaluated using a 100-point system; the technical and artistic aspects of the performance of the competition program are taken into consideration.
By decision of the Jury, the participants of the Competition are awarded:
- Laureate Diploma of the III degree – having achieved 65-74.99 points;
- Laureate Diploma of the II degree – having achieved 75-84.99 points;
- Laureate Diploma of the I degree – having achieved 85 points and more;
Laureate Diploma of the I degree and a Category Winner Diploma with a money prize of 200 Euro* – having achieved the highest score in their category (not less than 90 points)
GRAND PRIX Diploma and a money prize of 800 Euro*
The Jury determines the Absolute Winner of the Competition (GRAND PRIX Diploma) by voting in the 2nd round, regardless of the results of the previous round.
All choral groups will receive a diploma of participation in the 1st Rovdo International Choral Competition.
The Competition participants may be awarded additional/special prizes offered by the competition partners and approved by the Organizing Committee and the International Jury.
All results, including the results of the GRAND PRIX draw, will be announced at the closing ceremony on Sunday.
The decision of the Jury is final and not subject to appeal.
*All money prizes are paid off in Belarusian rubles at the rate of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus taking into account the Belarusian taxes.
Program
THE 1st ROUND PROGRAM
- In the categories A1, A2, B, C, D, the program should include at least one work of a Belarusian composer or one Belarusian folk song arrangement. Other works are up to the participants to choose. Only one piece of music can be accompanied by a sound pitch instrument (instruments). The number of works is limited by the total time of the performance.
- In the category E, the program should include sacred music works a cappella. The number of works is limited by the total time of the performance .
- In the category F, the program should consist of the gospel and / or spirituals works of the participant’s choice. The number of works is limited by the total time of the performance.
- In the category G, the program should consist of folk songs. Only one piece of music can be accompanied by a sound pitch instrument (instruments).
The number of works is limited by the total time of the performance.
The competitive program should be performed in the order indicated in the application.
The usage of any pre-recorded audio tracks (phonogram) is not allowed while performing competitive programs.
Participants of the Competition are fully responsible for respecting copyright while performing competitive programs.
The jury will consider the violation of the Competition rules when summing up the results of the Competition.
THE 2nd ROUND PROGRAM (GRAND PRIX DRAW)
Choral groups who became category winners, as well as other Laureates of the 1st degree with at least 90 points in their category by the Jury’s decision are eligible to take part in the 2nd round (GRAND PRIX draw).
Choral groups passed to the 2nd round (GRAND PRIX draw) should perform two choral pieces.
Only one choral piece can be repeated from the previous competitive performances.
Only one piece of music can be accompanied by a sound pitch instrument (instruments).
PERFORMANCE TIME LIMITS
- In the categories A, D, E, F, G – up to 12 minutes (from the first to the last sound)
- In the categories B, C – up to 15 minutes (from the first to the last sound)
- The 2nd round program (GRAND PRIX draw) – up to 8 minutes (from the first to the last sound)
The jury will consider the violation of the performance time limits when summing up the results of the Competition.
Application for participation
From September 16, 2020 to April 16, 2021, the application is filled out by participants on the competition website in Russian or English. The application should include the following:
- CV of the choir (up to 100 words);
- photo of the choir (in high resolution);
- photo of the conductor (in high resolution);
- video recordings of the competitive performances of the I and II rounds (see Requirements for video recordings of the competitive performances);
- the choral scores of the I and II rounds in PDF format.
Participants confirm that they have read and agree the Competition Regulations by sending the application for participation.
The Organizing Committee considers applications, makes a decision on the application approval/denial, informs of their decision by e-mail, and indicates the bank details for the participation fee transfer. Pleas, attach payment confirmation (photo or screenshot) to the reply letter.
Participation fee
Non-residents of the Republic of Belarus: 50 Euros for the participation of one choral group in one competitive category, and 25 Euros for each subsequent category in Euros.
The organizing committee indicates the bank details for the participation fee transfer in an admission letter.
The receipt of the participation fee payment should be sent to the email of the Competition rovdoicc@gmail.com no later than April 26, 2021.
The Early Bird package is valid for the participants who will submit an application and all the materials before February 1, 2021, and, being approved by the Organizing Committee, will pay the participation fee until February 16, 2021.

Requirements for the video recordings of competitive perfomance
Please, send video recordings of the competitive performances as a separate file (whole, entire) for each round (I and II (GRAND PRIX) rounds) in the form of links to cloud storage specified in the application.
Each video should begin with the announcement of the choral group, round and category, the competition program in the order of performance, and the words: “The performance is prepared for the I Rovdo International Choral Competition (distance)”. Previously recorded video files and archives are not allowed.
Video recordings made in the same room and on the same day are allowed for the Competition, without editing elements within one choral piece, without overlaying audio tracks.
Stopping the camcorder during the recording of one piece is not allowed.
File format: AVI, MOV, MP4. Aspect ratio: 16: 9, horizontal image orientation.
The video should be recorded using professional equipment or a mobile phone. An obligatory prerequisite for materials is the image and sound clarity.
The organizing committee rights
The Organizing Committee reserves the right to change the dates, timing, and venues of the Competition, the order of the Competition participants’ performances.
In case of the application withdraw on a participant’s initiative, paid participation fees are non-refundable. In case of the Competition cancellation by the organizers, participation fees will be refunded within a month.
If the participation fee is not paid until May 7, 2021, the choral group is not allowed to participate in the Competition.
Participants confirm their consent to post video recordings of their competitive performances on the official accounts of the Competition, comments within the framework of the Competition, as well as to the use of the received recording of the performance in the following ways: reproduction; distribution of the original or copies through sale or other transfer of ownership; rental of originals or copies, regardless of the ownership of the tangible medium in which the objects are expressed; instances import; broadcasting and by cable; other communication to the public, including via satellite, cable, mobile communications, IPTV and Internet; MMDS, OTT systems; alteration or other processing; translation into another language and use in translation; transfer to third parties and other use.
Participants of the Competition confirm their consent to the publication of their name, photos in all mass-media, and also agree in advance to be interviewed by mass-media, if this, in the opinion of the Organizer of the Competition, will contribute to the Competition’s and the Organizers’ positive image.
The Competition audio and video recordings, photographs are the organizers’ copyright. The Competition participants do not receive any royalties for audio/video recordings or photographs of their performances.
